We’ve had our 42’ Sailboat in the Stones Boatyard twice now. Most recently we had a tight deadline and needed to leave within 7 days. We outlined our initial work and Mitch, the yard manager, got multiple projects moving right away. Work we had done included bottom paint, prop paint, PSS install (stubborn shaft coupler), replaced 2 lifeline stanchions (very difficult because of their location), bow roller, and repitched our Maxprop. Determining the right pitch for the prop and the actual pitching are both more complicated than they should be and we’ve had it done several times by other boatyards in the past. But we knew we were still under-pitched because our cruising speed was low and we exceeded our max RPMs at wide open throttle. Mitch said that if they did the pitching, they would make sure it was right. 2 sea trials later (we were not charged for the extra haulout) and we finally have a perfectly pitch prop for our boat. We gained 1-1.5 knots of speed, a game-changer for a sailboat in the PNW where we motor most of the time. We pulled our fuel tank and had in pressured sprayed to remove sludge at the bottom of the tank and found it had some pinhole leaks. Mitch, unfazed, arranged for the bottom of the tank to be reskinned and had it back to us in less than 24 hours.

We felt at times we had unreasonable requests because of our time constraints, but Stones did their very best to accommodate us despite a full boat yard. We were back in the water a day early from our planned 7 days. Stone’s stands by its work and we will continue to get our boat work done here.

We were visiting Nanaimo for a day of fishing with our grandchildren and ran into a problem with our boat – which we only discovered at the boat launch. The team from Stones, led by the Service Manager – Mark, were amazing. They were able to fix my boat quickly and competently, their pricing was fair and best of all everyone we dealt with was polite, friendly and super helpful – including the service manager, the mechanic, the cashier, the staffer who helped us get the boat into their yard, etc. We can’t recommend this team highly enough and we will start towing our boat up to Nanaimo in the future for any major works.

Great Work and Even Better People

We brought our boat to Stones Boatyard in Nanaimo for bottom paint, zincs, through-hulls, a new propeller, and lifelines. Dan and Mitch did most of the work and did a fantastic job — professional, efficient, and detail-oriented.

One of the owners, Andrue, stopped by to introduce himself and made us feel genuinely welcome. We stayed on board while on the hard for a week, which was super convenient as we’d traveled from Port McNeill.

Highly recommend Stones for anyone looking for quality marine service and great customer care.

Mitch and Mark are life savers, they helped me all the way thru my repairs and guided my novice ass through what needs to be done now and what can wait till my next service!

We’ve just returned home after a visit to Nanaimo for a haul out at Stones Boatyard. The experience exceeded our expectations in a few different ways.
They were so accommodating and were able to complete everything we needed done in a very timely way.

Just purchased a 54 foot boat and needed some help learning how to dock her. I called around and Nanaimo Yacht Charters recommended Nima. I spent a few days with him. Great guy! Very knowledgeable and friendly. I feel much more confident now docking the boat. He was pretty amazing.

Great experience over 7 days in the Gulf Islands on “Sommelier”! The night skies were so lovely! The vessel was in very good condition, everything in working order or easily adjusted. Friendly and professional staff (especially Nema!) who took their time to ensure a good experience for us. Responsive and reassuring when we had a small concern. One suggestion for the charter company is to use a more environmentally friendly head cleaner. The product label on the bottle explicitly says “Toxic to marine life with long lasting effects”. We will charter with NYC again in the future!

Just finished a fantastic two week sailing holiday up the Sunshine Coast to Desolation sound on SY Venture. Very friendly and professional hand over of the yacht at the beginning and the end of the holidays. Yacht in good condition with everything one needs for a safe and comfortable sailing experience in tidal pacific waters with lots of wildlife. Special thanks to Nima, who really spoiled us taking his time to show us everything and anything around the boat and answer all our questions. If we ever make it back to BC, we would definitely charter again with Nanaima Yacht charters.
